Response to Reader's Question # 2

A blog follower, zen-of-cooking, asked a follow-up question to last week's inquiry, wondering if there was one meal which was best to choose to prepare when practicing zen in the kitchen.  Here's my response, posted with a thank you for asking, and a smile. Which meal should you choose to make, Zen-of-cooking? The decision is entirely up to you.  There isn’t a particular meal better than another for practicing zen-cuisine.  Making breakfast is a different experience than putting together a lunch, or planning and preparing dinner.  Stirring up a mid-morning batch of muffins adds a different texture to your day than pulling together an imaginative bedtime snack.

You might find the kitchen is quieter, and more conducive to contemplative cooking if you get up a little earlier in the morning.  Or perhaps you are inspired by the bustle and energy of your home before suppertime, and find that is the best time for you to exercise your culinary skills. As you experiment with various meals and times of day, enjoy the myriad flavors of each.  Just do it. Try whatever time you like, and prepare whatever foods you wish to include in your diet, and a time appropriate for zen-cuisine will open up before you.
